Vacation Homes

By travelanswerman | December 1, 2009

You can find vacation homes wherever people have found an alluring spot to relax. Water is the primary attraction, whether it is a lake, a river, or the ocean. Mountains are the other location where you’re likely to find vacation properties. There are a wealth of perfectly delightful vacation regions with an abundance of vacation homes that seem to appeal primarily to people living within a one day drive. Examples of these are some of the lakes of northern Michigan, Lake of the Ozarks, the beaches of the mid-Atlantic, the Florida Panhandle, and the Mississippi and Texas shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Only a few areas have broad national or international appeal…Hawaii, Florida, the Caribbean, Mexico, the Bahamas, Europe, the Rockies, the West Coast, New England, and the coast of the Carolinas.

As a rule, the older, traditional vacation destinations offer the broadest variety of rental options. For example, New England offers a selection of vacation homes, from modest cottages to large old family homes and farmhouses to newer condos. Newly developed vacation destinations, the Florida and Carolina beaches and most ski areas offer many more condos than houses. The same is true of Hawaii, except for the north shore of Oahu and parts of Kauai, where development has not yet crowded out the single family home.

In the Caribbean and Mexico the kind of property also depends on the extent of development. Puerto Vallerta offers a wide selection of beautiful villas and some nice condos. Jamaica is the island of large, magnificent villas complete with full domestic staffs. St. Thomas and St. Maarten, which are both quite well developed, offer a mix of villas and condos, while the less developed British Virgion Islands, and places like Montserrat, offer mostly villas and smaller cottages. In Europe you can rent farms, chateaux, castles, condos, flats, and anything else you can imagine.

It does not matter what your budget is, there will always be something for everyone, especially in the market today.
