Simple Digital Photography Tips for 2009

By travelanswerman | August 2, 2009

Modern technology continues to ease the stresses of traveling, with digital photography just one of the innovations we have adopted for traveling. With today’s small camera size and immediate ability to review images, it has become a personal “memory collector” … so we would like to share a few points to help you discover the fun you can have with digital photography.

Since digital cameras don’t use film, their use can be more cost effective and less cumbersome. Instead they use reusable memory cards that can hold thousands of images at a time. Once you have finished taking your photographs, you can then transfer those files to your computer where you can edit to your heart’s content. Most computers – and digital cameras – come with applications designed specifically for photo editing where you can brighten the sky, darken the mood, crop or enlarge, add visual effects, or simply remove the red from someone’s eyes. As noted previously, the amount of control you now have in attaining a quality image has increased significantly…welcome to the 21st century!

With digital photography, you can also remain in contact with family and friends easier than ever before. Numerous photo sharing web sites available (including Flickr, Webshots, Google’s Picasa, Snapfish, Kodak, and more) let you quickly upload your photos then invite others to experience your journey along with you.

When traveling, don’t forget to bring along any camera accessories you may need. I always recommend packing spare batteries, extra memory cards, as well as adaptors and converters for charging batteries since they are often more expensive overseas. The same holds true for manual camera film and batteries, as well.

No matter what type of camera you use, what’s most important is capturing those images that will help you to recall the joys of travel long after you’ve returned home. Action…camera…shoot!
